The Jazz-Bins (Euro Tour)
Marc Ribot 🎸 Gregory Lewis 🎹 Joe Dyson 🥁 Ribot says: "McDuff's American audience - the so-called 'Chitlin Circuit' - was simply the most hippie in the world: sophisticated in music, certainly... but also demanding of the deepest soul, while rewarding moderation in its expression. What emerged from the musicians was as intense as the music that took shape at the CBGB at that time. In fact, I always thought the two scenes had something in common, and since then I've been trying to express exactly that. Greg Lewis, my colleague in this project, is not only one of the greatest Hammond B3 organ virtuosos in life, but perhaps the only one willing and capable of carrying a real Hammond B3 and a Leslie speaker cabinet to live concerts in New York! Greg is really the best-kept secret in New York and can tell a story about the Hammond like no other." Complemented by a drummer like the now increasingly sought-after Joe Dyson of New Orleans, the Jazz-Bins use deep grooves and over the top improvisations to channel the spirits of historic venues such as Newark's Key Club Sparky J's Lounge and New York's CBGB's back in time (1977) into a kind of punk/soul salvation quest. But, beware! Jazz-Bins don't exactly go “old” but “to the future,” to tap into a scene that never really existed (Ribot still says: “that should have existed, will exist, and exists every time people abandon their preconceptions about the “gender” long enough to feel the groove”), and a vibe that has never really stopped. Be curious and discover this umteen more wonder of Mr. Marc Ribot!
